Attaching a glasses chain takes about 30 seconds once you've done it once. Here's the complete guide — including how to handle different frame types and what to do if the fit isn't quite right.
What You'll Need
Your glasses chain will arrive with two small silicone loops already attached to each end via lobster clasp connectors. These loops are what attach to your frames — everything else is already assembled.
The Standard Method (Works for 99% of Frames)
Step 1. Hold your glasses with the temples (arms) extended open, as if you were about to put them on.
Step 2. Take one end of the chain. You'll see a small silicone loop connected to a gold lobster clasp.
Step 3. Slide the silicone loop over the tip of one temple arm, pushing it about 1–2cm up from the end. It should feel snug but not tight — the silicone stretches slightly to accommodate different temple widths.
Step 4. Repeat on the other side.
Step 5. Put your glasses on as normal. The chain should hang in a smooth arc behind your neck and down your chest. Adjust the loop position slightly if needed — closer to the frame hinge for a higher hang, further toward the tip for a lower position.
That's it. The whole process takes under a minute.
Frame-Specific Tips
Full-Frame Plastic or Acetate Frames
The most straightforward fit. The silicone loop slides easily onto the temple and holds firmly. No adjustment usually needed.
Metal Frames (Thin Temples)
Metal temples are often thinner than acetate ones. The loop will still hold, but you may want to position it a little further from the tip (2–3cm in) for the most secure fit. If the loop feels loose, fold it back on itself once before sliding it on — this doubles the grip thickness.
Half-Frame or Rimless Glasses
These work fine as long as the temple arms are standard width. The key is making sure the loop is positioned past any hinge mechanism, sitting on the flat section of the temple arm.
Thick Acetate or Oversized Frames
Very thick temples (typically high-fashion or vintage frames) may require stretching the silicone loop slightly more to fit. This is normal — the silicone is flexible enough to accommodate most oversized frames without losing grip.
Very Thin Wire Frames (Under 2mm)
The standard loop may be too large to grip thin wire temples securely. In this case, we recommend folding the loop to create a tighter fit, or reaching out to us — we're happy to advise on your specific frames.
How to Remove the Chain
To remove: simply slide each silicone loop off the temple tip. The lobster clasp connectors also open if you want to detach the loops from the chain entirely — useful if you want to swap the chain between multiple pairs of glasses.
Wearing It as a Necklace (Without Glasses)
Remove both silicone loops from your glasses. The loops connect to the chain via lobster clasps — open the clasp, remove the loop, and close the clasp again. The chain now functions as a standalone necklace with two small clasps at each end, which are nearly invisible when worn.
Troubleshooting
The chain feels too heavy: This is usually a positioning issue. Make sure the loops are sitting past the hinge — the weight should be carried by the straight section of the temple, not the joint.
The glasses keep sliding: Move the loop slightly further from the temple tip (toward the hinge). The farther in it sits, the more stable the hold.
The loop won't stay on: Check that the loop is pushed fully past the widest point of the temple tip. A brief stretch and release of the silicone before fitting can also help it conform to the shape of your frame.
